Makenzie Southern began her involvement in marching percussion at North Forsyth High School, graduating in 2017. From there, she attended the University of Georgia where she earned her degree in Mathematics Education.

During her time at UGA, she performed in the front ensemble for the Redcoat Band for three years. She also completed two seasons with Equinox Percussion.

Makenzie is currently in her third year teaching math at North Gwinnett High School. She stays involved with the band community by helping out with North Gwinnett’s marching band and indoor programs, teaching at Atlanta CV, and continuing with a second season with Q2.
