Jeff Sacktig: Visual Designer

Jeff Sacktig Visual Designer

A New York native growing up in a family of drum corps performers, Jeff began his drum corps career at the young age of 9 in the very same church group that his father marched in the 1940’s, The St. Matthias Blue Max. During his teen years, he marched with the Sunrisers Drum and Bugle Corps before becoming a member of the Garfield Cadets. Having spent 29 years with The Cadets Organization, Jeff was a soprano player from 1986 to 1989. He joined The Cadets Visual Staff in 1990 and in 1995, he became the Visual Designer and held that position for 20 years spanning from 1995 to 2001 and then again from 2003 to the 2015. Jeff was a part of 7 DCI World Championship titles and numerous medalist placements. His contributions to not only The Cadets but to drum corps overall has been called legendary. His drill often involves large, sweeping curvilinear forms and he prefers a faster, riskier style with many exposed block rotations and pass-throughs. Supporters call him one of the leaders in drill design known to “push the envelope” and his work is now often imitated by others. Currently Jeff is the Visual Designer for Carolina Crown. While most known for his drill writing for The Cadets, other DCI corps he has worked with are the Crossmen, Capital Regiment and Magic of Orlando (2002 Division II World Champions and Division I Finalist). His expertise and leadership has been seen in the Drum Corps Associates circuit as well. He was the Visual Designer for Cadets², the 2016 DCA World Champion from 2012 its inaugural season to 2016. Internationally, Jeff is the visual designer the Drum Corps Japan Champion Yokohama Scouts. Jeff is also an active designer for indoor percussion, winter guard and marching band. He has spent 12 years as the visual designer for the 4 time WGI World Class Gold Medalist Dartmouth HS Indoor Percussion. Dartmouth’s full production value from concept, set design, costuming, musical/visual expression of composition has helped shaped the way for the indoor percussion arts. Other percussion groups Jeff has designed for include: Cadets Winter Percussion, United Percussion, East Side Fury, Odyssey, First Degree, Forsyth Central HS and Kennesaw Mt HS. Some of Jeff’s winter guard design credits include: Emerald Marquis, Black Watch, Crimson Kings, St John’s Productions, Lassiter HS, Salem Blue and Apex.
